Dr. Catherine Hickson

Policy, Advocacy & Regulatory Affairs

Dr. Catherine Hickson is a prominent Canadian volcanologist and geothermal energy expert. She began her career with the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC) as a research scientist and spent time as a senior executive in charge of the Vancouver office of the GSC before joining the private sector in 2008.  Her indoctrination into geothermal energy came as a student when she carried out temperature logging of gradient wells in the Mount Meager area. Since then, she has been actively involved in geothermal energy development, including leadership roles in companies like Alterra Energy Corp, (VP Exploration), Alberta No. 1 (Chief Executive Officers), and Tuya Terra Geo Corp (President), focusing on harnessing geothermal energy globally. Her extensive experience encompasses both scientific research and practical applications in sustainable energy development. For more detailed information on Dr. Hickson’s background and current endeavors, you can refer to her Wikipedia page (Catherine Hickson – Wikipedia), or the following article: See Past president geothermal Canada. Additionally, the Canadian Energy Geoscience Association highlighted her recent presentation in Regina, reflecting her ongoing contributions to the field: CEGA – Canadian Energy Geoscience Association’s Post. She has also been the recipient of three significant awards, Head of the Public Service award in Service Excellence within the public service, C. J. Westerman Memorial Award, APEGBCs highest award for a geoscientist, and Geoscientists Canada Canadian Professional Geoscientist Career Achievement Award.
